Decorations arrive pre-fletched from the bank (no decoration XP counted); toggled on they are modeled as 4 × the wood's shortbow (u) per totem (hiking staff for redwood); longbows give slightly more XP at +5 levels — not modeled.
Chop rates assume ideal continuous rolling — real rates lose ~5% (yew) to ~18% (magic) to tree falls and respawns, and from yew up runs also wait on totem degradation. The valley has 2 oaks · 15 willows · many maples · 2 yews · 4 magic trees.
Banked runs add 50 s of banking per run — calibrated so the 270 s full run reproduces the wiki's observed 90 totems/h (its Strategies page elsewhere assumes 115/h — a wiki inconsistency).
Not modeled: ent trails (+15% XP), wrong-spirit penalties (assumed zero), and Construction side XP (≈ 1 × your Construction level per totem).
The wiki's XP/h ranges apply to the decorations-off banked default; fletching decorations en route intentionally exceeds them.
About the Vale Totems calculator
Fletching XP per hour at Vale Totems for every log type: either carving banked logs, or chopping the logs during the activity (self-sufficient mode), where your Woodcutting level and axe decide the pace. Handy for ironmen weighing whether to bank logs first or train Woodcutting and Fletching together.
How the run model works
A full run covers 8 totem sites and 40 logs in roughly 270 seconds of carving, plus about 50 seconds of banking between runs in banked mode; a partial run covers 5 sites and 25 logs. A fletching knife trims about 20 seconds off each run, and carving decorations en route adds XP per run. Banked rates are calibrated against the OSRS Wiki's observed ranges, from about 23,000 XP per hour on oak up to about 341,000 on redwood.
Self-sufficient mode inserts a gathering phase into each cycle: the chop rate comes from your Woodcutting level and axe success chance (yew with a dragon axe at level 99 chops about 281 logs per hour), so the tool reports both the Fletching and the Woodcutting XP per hour of the combined loop. The axe automatically resolves to the best one you can actually swing at your level, and redwood is banked-only, since those trees cannot be chopped in the valley.
Frequently asked questions
Which log gives the best Fletching XP?
With banked logs, the highest tier you can supply; redwood tops the table. Self-sufficient, the answer depends on your Woodcutting: higher logs carve for more XP but chop slower, and the table shows the crossover for your exact level and axe.
Is the fletching knife worth bringing?
Yes. The 20 seconds saved per run compound into several percent more runs per hour, in both modes.
Is the data live?
No. Totem XP, decoration XP, and rates are verified against the OSRS Wiki and hardcoded, so the page works offline.
Totem XP, decoration XP, and rates verified against the OSRS Wiki on 2026-07-22. Static data, no live lookups.
