About the Giants' Foundry planner

Plan exactly what an ironman needs to buy to reach a target Smithing level at Giants' Foundry: which shops to visit, how many items to buy, how many bank-and-shop trips that takes, the total gp, and how long the whole grind lasts, counting play time and shopping time together.

How the planner works

Every sword uses 28 bars. Sword quality follows your mould score, your levels, and how many mistakes you make per sword, and hand-in XP scales with quality; at quality 148 a sword pays roughly 15,700 XP. Because rates change with levels and Kovac's grog brackets, the plan splits your journey into level bands and picks a metal pairing per band (the suggestion is a list, never an auto-pick; you choose the row).

The shopping list sources bars from meltable armour and weapons in regular shops: Cam Torum warhammers, Brian's battleaxes, Aneirin's platebodies, Horvik, Fortis, and friends. Ore shops are excluded by design. Stock limits per visit are respected, a shop's trips equal the most-demanding item it sells, and each bank-and-buy round trip defaults to 30 seconds (you can set anything from 10 to 120). Play time assumes roughly 14 swords per hour.

Bars you already own reduce purchases band by band, leftovers are reported instead of silently vanishing, and every row shows XP, gp cost, and the net gp after sword commissions. If a metal cannot be sourced from your unlocked shops, the row says which unlock fixes it, for example Song of the Elves or enabling tier-C shops like Scavvo's for rune.

Assumptions and scope

  • Refinement XP is not counted, only hand-in XP, so totals are slightly conservative.
  • The Smiths' Uniform is noted where relevant but not modelled as a toggle.
  • Shop stock and prices are verified against the OSRS Wiki and hardcoded, so there are no live lookups and the planner works offline.

Frequently asked questions

Why not buy ore from Ordan and smelt bars instead?

That is a different training loop with its own economics; see the Blast Furnace calculator for the ironman-honest version of it. This planner deliberately sticks to shop-bought meltables, which is the practical way to feed Giants' Foundry on an ironman.

What does "use best net for every band" do?

It selects, for each level band, the pairing with the best net gp result once commissions are counted. That is usually the cheapest realistic route, though you can still pick any row manually.
